Judging by your name, you are either trolling or you must be terribly misguided. The same could be said about television, movies, and even most books. In fact, the same could be said about the majority of hobbies. Hobbies are meant to be fun, not another chore in which society pressures you to succeed. In fact, thats why video games are so popular in the first place; They are a break from the constant pressure to somehow be better then everyone else. I love video games, been playing them all my life, and now work on them for a living. Video games can evoke just as much thought or emotion as an epic novel or movie, they are just a different format of media to interact with. If you think games are really that simplistic, I challenge you to stop play call of duty and start picking up some of the much more demanding games out there. Many games carry some deep messages and have excellent stories and characters that trump many books and movies out there. To discount video games as an actual factor of influence in our current and younger generation is absurd. If it’s a big enough deal to start taking flack from the paranoid older generation, then it is obviously having a profound effect of changing our culture. It’s the same as every revolutionary ‘hobby’ to come around, from comic books to rock and roll. Just because I disdain people taking it too far (as in all things, you have to be mature enough to know when to take things in portions.) doesn’t mean I don’t like video games. I think they can be extremly productive depending on what you are trying to get out of it. Thanks to video games the existence of simulator has greatly reduced the cost and time needed to train people on advanced machinery and even plays a large role in our military. Educational video games are also received more eagerly by young children as it grasps their interest and keeps it far longer then a book, tv show, or an adult droning on and on to them because it allows the child to jump right into the lesson and interact. I could honestly go on and on, video games are awesome, and I’m not sure how you came about forming the opinion you have.
