Voip, can someone help?
Hi I live in Australia and would like to know does voip require a landline rental or do you just pay for the plan and is it just like a internet service as I dont need a landline just the internet and wireless is costing me heaps to use, can anyone give me some advice on what to use. Also I play alot of online games so I cant have it too slow
VOIP is voice over internet - this is basically a way of making phone calls using an internet connection. I use it from work as a way of talking to clients (although I am based in the UK) on a landline for my ADSL and it works well for me, but using a mobile dongle and 3G connection the quality is not really acceptable.
I am confused as to the online games comment - you don't play online games over VOIP, they both use the same connection and if you are talking on a VOIP connection this will take some bandwidth from the games and everything else you are doing. My 3.5Mb line copes with SKYPE (a voip application), tweetdeck, email, browsing and online games all going at the same time with no noticable effects.
