Why do rental companies forget to take out the pass codes in video games?


For example. Battlefield 3 requires you to have an online pass to play online, which comes in the case of every new copy, preventing people who rent the game from playing online. What I want to know is why these companies don't take out said codes from the game cases. They are easy to take, and are worth 10 bucks a pop.

Because it would be illegal. EA packages them in so they are part of the game package. Taking it out would be against the law!
