Bad? Quite the opposite is true, in fact you'd be hard pressed to find a better TV to game on for more than a few reasons. Here's just a couple of reasons that pertain to the gaming aspect and why CRT is the king.

1- Burn in is a non issue if common sense is used. By this I mean limiting game sessions to 8 hour stretches, then switching over and watching some regular TV or perhaps a DVD as this will keep the image from 'life bars' and such from becoming a permenant fixture on your screen. Hey, this goes for EVERY set regardless of whether it's CRT, Plasma or LCD though CRT is the most forgiving in this aspect while the Plasma is the worst offender. As a rule of thumb keeping your contrast ratios at a sub 50 setting will help greatly, in fact i'll even give you the optimal settings for your exact set as I have a 51f59 and have done extensive research. These settings are the baseline used by some serious TV tweekers and are derived via calibration, light and color meters to be optimal. You may need to go a few points + or - depending on your lighting conditions and such but these are the best place to start.

and if you're up to service menu changes simply turn the set to an unused input for a black screen then press Menu on the set itself. Next hit Menu on the remote, the number 8 then Select and Hey Presto, you're there! Now scroll down to the TA1360 setting, enter and change the following

Remember to note the original settings in you manual in case you need to go back to factory settings such as to avoid hassles if warrenty work becomes nessesary at some point.

2- Lag, or perhaps I should say the lack of. If you shop the various other display formats you'll run across a thing called response time and this is measured in milliseconds(ms). Now 8ms is considered minimum for game play and at this speed ghost trailing will be only slight, noticeable in gaming or when watching action on TV such as sports. Sure, it seems manageable but as for gaming on FPS type shooters it's a nightmare as that 'dead on' head shot keeps just missing. This is lag and it's a killer, especially during on line play. Luckily there is ZERO lag to be had on a CRT type display and thus you have an advantage in each and every game you play, especially if you eventually upgrade your system to an Xbox 360 and go on line with Xbox Live. You'll always be slightly ahead of opponents playing on Plasma and LCD type sets and as we all know ANY edge is a good thing!

Wow, I could go on all night about long term performance and such but I think you get the idea. Rest assured, you've choosen wisely and have an absolutely fabulous set in your Hitachi one which will provide an astounding picture for many years to come be it for gaming or simply watching.
