Is it illegal to rent out video games?
I have a pile of em lying around, I might as well make some cash.
Actually, yes, I disagree with the law, but you need a license to actually do it.
Logically, the problem occurs when you rent out the game to someone, for let's say $10, and then they refuse to return it. Well you can go to the police, but in that case you were; a) renting without a license to do so and b) running an unlicensed business. One is business law, the other is state law dealing with business registration.
FYI, when Hollywood Video or Blockbuster rent games, they are renting a disc that cost them about $200, while at a store it might cost you $60. That extra $140 is the licensee fee that you do not pay.
