Forget that it had a story, or even that it took place on mars, and it would still be a good game. I like to consider a game like RF:G a video game in its purest form. You play it because the mechanic is fun, and that's all. The studio was smart to put in the kinds of weapons they did too, because that just multiplied the amount of fun you could have. I actually wrote about this game mechanic in a recent post I did on my own blog, if you're interested: I like what you're doing here! Keep it up.
