Video Game Rental Business

movie store rental problems?
i live in montana on fort peck reservation and i rented a game from fort peck video store. well they didn't have any contract for me to sign when they took my info, signature of rented movie, and a copy of my id, they never once told me how much a late fee is or anything its been a week since the due date and they come to my house and tell me if i dint return the game to them the next business day they are gonna call the cops on me and take me to court. they have been harassing me even after i told them i lost the games and are continuing to charge me a late fee which is already 57$ after one week. is there something i can do to help protect myself against them.
they dont have any info on late fees but i iknw its the original renting fee and i already told them it was lost but they wouldnt take that answer so i lied and told them i took it to replay so probally not the best decision i already have a copy of one of the games i could give them but not the other
Goto the video store and ask to see a copy of their late return policy & fees. If they don't have any policy, ask them what they are basing their late fee's on. It has to be on something. Ask to see the manager/owners. Talk to them, about paying for them item or replacing it. You can usually find a copy for cheap on ebay. If it is locally owned they are not governed by corporate. That's the bad news. The good news is they still can't just pull late fee's out their rear, they have to make guidelines in case someone brings an item back late, it gets lost, etc. The cops would laugh if they called them, just so you know, and as far as court, it has to be a certain amount before they can file against you. Best of luck. Sounds you need to do some digging and footwork.
