Video Game Review Jobs
i'm looking to become a video games journalist, where should i start?

Basically i'm loooking to become invloved in review and anylaising games in a magazine such as OPM or Games Master. I'm nearing my final year of school where afterwards i'll go to University. My main subject is English and i've never really taken computing but i will in my final year. At uni i was going to try and study English, Journalism, & Computing Science. Basically i'd be looking to focus more on consoles rather than PC's. Would a full understanding of how the consoles work be required or simply knowledge about the games? Also whats the best way to break into the industry? I know it seems quite a specific job but i love games and theres nothing else i can really see myself doing.

I had a specific journalistic desire when i was somewhere in the middle: I wanted to become a film critic. It didn't work out because that's just too narrow and you won't make a living.

You gotta just write about whatever newspapers give you and cover a lot of stuff. If you're like me, i know you just want to review video games, but you might find it a fun challenge to try to get your name in print wherever possible and write on anything anyone gives you. i enjoy doing that.

i know of a website that pays a little money for game reviews. email me in about a week and i'll give you that site. i'm writing a review for them now and don't want competition, so give me a week.
i'm at mrpelican56@yahoo.com.

How could I land a job as a Video Game Reviewer?

I have been doing this for a while now in my blogs and online and I have a large fan base of my reviews. I have been told several times I am really good at it too. With that said, I would like to get involved in reviewing games professionally. How do I come about doing this?

Here is a location you can go to in order to see some of my game reviews in both video and blog form:

There is a site named MyGameMug.com that offers user-submitted game reviews. It is in beta, but I am a member and can offer you an invite code. Just drop me an email and I can send it to you. It may help get your reviews out to many people on the site. Plus, users can rate your reviews as well.

I think you should get a pc instead of a mac. Most games wont work on a mac and the ones that do are more expensive.

Also its quite slow and old as well. You could get a much faster PC for the same price. I am also not sure the graphics in that Mac would be good enough to run most games.

Something like that will be about 3X as fast.

Well, unfortunately, I have to get ready for work, so I only read about half of this. But I will still say it is a good start. I like how you draw the reader right in, putting us right into the story. Your language shows the main character's personality, placing us inside Jessica's head. We see the father's character too, learning some background about him and Jessica's mother. I would only suggest a bit of formatting and grammar fixes. For example, this story is currently made of one HUGE paragraph! Try to break it up. Whenever you're talking about a new subject, you should start a new para. You also need a new para whenever a different person is speaking. Like this:

“Come on Jessica, it’s time to go to school.”

Ugh, school. I got out of the desk chair I accidentally slept in from exhausting homework. I got my bag, the one my friend, Alyssa, gave to me many years ago for my birthday. Yes, it’s really old and it still has a big stain from when she accidentally spilled the fruit punch all over, but it’s usable.

So I grabbed the bag and said bye to my dad. “Bye Dad.” He was studying something on the computer.

“Bye sweetie, good luck on your G.O.A.T. test! Remember, don’t cheat!”

You don't have to break it up exactly this way if you don't want, this is just a start. I also noticed a few places where a period or comma went missing, but a thorough read-through should catch these. Also, a couple places where you state something redundant. Like in the line above:

So I grabbed the bag and said bye to my dad. “Bye Dad.”

Pick one of the "bye dads", not both are needed.

But overall, a very good start; keep working on it!
