    I think you are a fine writer! Your structure and punctuation is all good and I can picture what you have written in my head…I am not really into scifi so I couldn't tell about content but you definitely have potential. However, I would try and only use all caps if it is extremely necessary, and "when THE ACCIDENT happened" should probably be italics rather than all caps but sorry that has nothing to with the question at hand! Yes, you are a good writer.
    Sometimes for feedback on my work or for proof reading I go to reviewfuse.com…people are pretty honest there. Check it out.

    I think it's a fine story, and if you keep writing it will come faster and easier.

    You have a few typos that need to be corrected – have someone read if for you to find them it's hard to edit your own work.

    I don't know what a ghost portal is or what it does.

    You did not explain why the parents were glum – if you leaves things unexplained it causes the reader to wonder about that and it detracts from the story.

    Keep writing.
