In a video game review, what does "tilt" refer to?
I frequently use a popular video game site to research games for various reasons. One of the factors in their review section is "tilt". I have no idea what this refers to. Can anyone help me out a bit? Thanks!
I assume you are looking at one of Gamespot's old reviews (they have since changed their review system so "Tilt" no longer has any function)
Gamespot's old review system used a mathematical formula to determine the overall score of a game based on the component scores. Tilt is just another way to give the reviewer a little extra say in the final rating. Sometimes a game has really bad scores in certain areas, but the reviewer was left with a really good impression, so they boost it's score a little by giving it a high tilt rating. The opposite could be true also, a game could look real good and control pretty well, but could leave the reviewer with a bad taste in their mouth, so they give it a low score.
Again, Gamespot changed its system, so Tilt is no longer mentioned in new reviews.
